The participation level refers to the degree or extent to which individuals or groups are actively involved or engaged in a particular activity, project, or process. In this video essay, Viola, a member of Craft Corps Group 3, shares her insights as a recent graduate in Architecture and Urbanism from the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. She expresses her passion for observing people and street life, as well as exploring parks and playgrounds. Rather than focusing on intricate details, Viola prefers to create ideas, concepts, and larger patterns.
An inspiring location for her in Prague is the old city walls, where she enjoys sitting atop them to observe the surroundings while remaining largely unnoticed by passersby. She describes a personal sanctuary within the city— a small nook where she can feel safe and yet remain aware of everything happening around her.
Viola advocates for the temporary use of empty plots in Prague, lamenting their underutilisation and envisioning them as spaces for playgrounds, parks, or simple benches. She expresses a desire for improved collaboration between residents, the city, and landowners, emphasising the need for community engagement in urban planning and development.
